TOSSA PLANA DE LLES adventures

From the 27th of december 2008 to 29th december 2008
We went to La Tossa Plana de Lles ( or Pic de la Portelleta) for a trekking and freeriding session with couple of friends. This little mountain which summit is located at 2916m above the sea level ( the second hightest in Cerdanya) is easy to access by car, although the road was not recognized by our GPS.
After leaving Murcia at 9 am and stopping by the lovely town of ALTEA , we reached our destination (the camping) at around 6pm . Time to fill up the car with our stuff (board, bags, helmet, food, sleeping bags, etc), we drove toward the refuge of Cap de Rec ( right on the GR11 pathway) where we would spend 2 nighst.
First, we met our friend at a near-by camping, in a chalet taht they have constructed themselves, and then we headed of to the refuge where a nice hot meal was waiting for us. We finished our dinner with a UNO card game and went off to bed to recharge the batteries.

28th of December 08:
AFter a big breakfast, we were getting ready to climb the 1000m slope. What an adventure !
Bag, helmet, board , talkie walkie etc ! we are fully prepared !!
The first 2H , we have been cruising through the forest and its pine trees. The mist bring an awkward sensation , a bit like in the BLAIR WITCH PROJECT movie (where is the map...?)
we finally passed the forest and arrive to a small refuge which is built just in front the hill .
It was the beginning of a long journey, full of mist , a tiny bit of wind and chilling cold. After a 6H walk we manage to climb and reach the summit. The sky opened up and a breathtaking scenary is exposing his beautifull mountains to us . The landscape is amazing.
After a well-deserved break ( eating some food and re-hydrating ) we are trying to go down on our snowboard, however, there are a lot of rock and the mist is so thick that we cannot see our feet.
Wisely, we decided to go back down the slope walking with our raquettes. After 15 minutes walking, my muscles were starting feel achy and hurting very badly: horrible cramps nailed me down on my knees. Impossible to move ! need to rest , eat a banana and drink isostar ! 30 min rest and we are again on our way back as it is getting very late and the mist is really getting creepy ! We got almost lost but thank to our friend Pau ( and his excelent notion of orientation, his GPS and compass) we are back on track and in the right direction back home .
6pm , it is getting darker and darker but we managed to arrive safely at the refuge ! we were exhauted but so much happy of our journey!shame we could not ride la Tossa plana but we´ll go back for sure.

Apero time, it is funny how a beer always taste better after a long trek ! shower time and then dinner , few glass of wine , a party of UNO and sleeping time !

29th december 2008: weather is bad , really bad, snowing misty , name it have it ! we decided not to carry our adventure and return to our caravane . We have to place the chain on to the tyres car . The road is really slippery ! and our way down back to the camping is a bit folklo!
